Spoilers ahead!
Robbie Fontaine thinks he knows who he is and what he stands for. But when he meets the Bennetts and ends up in Green Creek his entire life turns upside down. He will now have to relearn who he is and who he loves, and join the fight against Robert Livingstone.
I really loved the first two books in this series, and overall this one is no exception. It still has lovely world-building and great characters with well-written relationships. The story is really progressing and I was glad to learn more of Robbie. It was nice to see him rediscover who he was, even without having his old memories.
Buuuut I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed this book as much as the last two. It's still great and I enjoyed it quite a bit more than other books I recently read, but it's not my favorite of the series. Part of that can be pinned on Robbie: He's simply my least favorite protagonist in the series so far. Is he a good, well-written character? Yes. And like I said in the previous paragraph, it was nice to see him rediscover himself and his love for Kelly and the Bennetts. But when comparing him to Ox and Gordo, I just find the former two to be the more likable and interesting protagonists. Robbie isn't bad or anything, but I simply didn't have as great a time reading his POV as I did Ox's and Gordo's in books one and two respectively.
I will say that I do like where the plot is going. Robert Livingstone is the first villain in the series I consider to be a really good one (the previous ones were effective, but also a bit standard as far as villains go). It was also interesting to see Robbie in a relationship with Livingstone, even if it was because Robert manipulated Robbie. The climax with him was particularly intense, and it seems now that Livingstone is stronger than before and somehow both a witch and a werewolf in one. Intense shit.
In the end Robbie's memory problems get solved because of a sex scene he has with Kelly and this is one part of the story where I just kinda checked out. I am far too asexual to be able to relate to sex solving any problem. It doesn't break the story or anything but it's just not something I was particularly into seeing. I don't mind sex scenes in general but for them to be this important plot point isn't it for me. I don't see how nothing else brought back the old Robbie, but somehow sex of all things is what does bring him back. Again not a bad scene or anything but for someone who is asexual and sex-repulsed, it did absolutely nothing for me.
Overall still a very strong book, though, and I do recommend it! I personally just couldn't get as much into Robbie's part of this story. But who knows, maybe next book I'll really be able to get into the protagonist again.
