Book Review: Nature in the Netherlands by William van den Akker

Note: The title of this book has been translated into English by me for the reading comprehension of this blog's viewers as the book itself isn't available in English (yet). The original title reads Natuur in Nederland.

A short Dutch non-fiction about the nature in our little land.

In this book, the author delves briefly into various aspects of Dutch nature.

A good book, though it is of course a short one as all books of this series are. This book is part of a series that basically tells younger readers very basic information they need to know about a subject. With that comes not a lot of depth, but this book still makes for a good introduction to the topic of nature in the Netherlands. Which is a bit of a sad one because our country by now is mostly city, town and farmland, with very little "wild" nature left. Heck, there's even no true "wild" forests left here, all of them have been planted and planned. Which is of course quite sad.

The book delves into the loss of nature and biodiversity throughout history, but also new attempts to restore nature. It also tackles some of the animals that live here.

So overall this is a decent introduction on the subject. There's unfortunately not a lot of depth in the information here, but the book looks nice and this could get people interested to read more about the subject, so I still think it did its job well.
