Book Review: Wild Animals in the Netherlands by Geert-Jan Roebers

Note: The title of this book has been translated into English by me for the reading comprehension of this blog's viewers as the book itself isn't available in English (yet). The original title reads Wilde dieren in Nederland.

A short non-fiction for children about Dutch wildlife, let's check it out!

The book delivers precisely what the titles promises, an (albeit short) look at the many fauna the Netherlands has to offer. They're subdivided into certain categories (e.g. predators, ungulates, bugs, reptiles) and some notable species of each type are mentioned. It also briefly touches on how many species are dwindling in numbers due to the amount of nature being destroyed here.

Short, like all Junior Information books are, but sweet and it gets the point across. Like I said before, as a kid I used to devour the books of this series because they're very short and easily digestible non-fictions yet they've covered a whole lot of topics (there's several hundreds of these books). So I read a whole lot of these back in my day.

And this one is also quite good. It's neatly categorized and gives the reader brief information about the animals which live here of various types. It mostly covers mammals such as foxes and deer, but bugs and reptiles are also briefly touched upon. I also like how it doesn't just list off species, but also has a little bit more context for wildlife in the Netherlands. A much-needed bonus.

So yeah, a good read about the topic! It's of course brief, but it gives the topic good basic coverage.
