Note: This book isn't available in English (yet). The original title reads De Bende van de Bokkenrijders #2: Vurige ruiters.
Let's look at book two. Spoilers ahead.
Mathijs gets apprenticed to the doctor Joseph Kirchhoffs and leaves his life at the farm behind. He soon advances in his studies, but then discovers a terrible truth: Kirchhoffs is actually the leader of the Bokkenrijders gang, which terrorizes the local communities. Left without much of a choice, Mathijs becomes a Bokkenrijder himself, and he realizes that he's in a lot of danger because of this.
I liked this one even more than the last one. The previous book was also good, but it did have a more mellow pace to it and not a lot of action. This book definitely upped everything. We get more great character development for Mathijs and I loved what they did with Kirchhoffs here. He's this guy who you do root for, but he can also be kind of scary and threatening if need be. Still, his heart is (usually) in the right place, even if he is a Bokkenrijder.
The pacing also feels a bit more fast and there's a few more scenes that leave an impact here than in the last book. There's also still a few more mellow scenes, but I never grew bored during those. Heck, I really liked reading about Mathijs and his interactions with the people around him at his new home. It was genuinely enjoyable.
So yes, great book. Not perfect but I had a good time reading it and look forward to the next.
