Note: The title of this book has been translated into English by me for the reading comprehension of this blog's viewers as the book itself isn't available in English (yet). The original title reads Cronache del Regno della Fantasia #3: La forêt des murmures.
Book three! Spoilers ahead!
Audace, Spica, Regulus, Robinia and their new goose friend travel through the realm of the Orcs in order to get to their next destination. But it's a journey full of perils, especially when they get captured by Orcs and Audace comes face-to-face with a huge dragon that wants to kill him. Will they escape?
I didn't hate this book or anything, but I also was by far not as into it as I was with the first two. It's a fine story with decent-enough characters, but at the same time I feel that the generic-ness of the series is really starting to show by now.
Also, I really don't like how ungraceful it is. Like, there are some prophecies in this, but they are written in the most boring, stale and literal way they can be. So none of it feels poetic or mysterious like they are clearly intending for the prophecy to be. And I get it, it's a book for children, so obviously I shouldn't be expecting The Lord of the Rings levels of poetic writing or anything, but like, children aren't this stupid either. And I find that a lot of children are quite curious (I certainly was when I was one), so writing a more poetic, more mysterious prophecy that shouldn't be interpreted this literally would be great. It doesn't need to be super high-level or anything but just something more poetic and mysterious to fit the tone of the story would work.
I'm also not a big fan of the crush Spica has on Audace. As a reminder, they're adopted siblings. So this is weird. And don't give me the "they're not related by blood" crap, they're still siblings who grew up together as family so putting this in a children's book is weird.
So yeah, I'm not a huge fan of this one. There is still some fun stuff here, such as exploring different realms and seeing the redemption of the dragon, but aside from that, not too much good to be found here.
