Book Review: The Winter Wolf by Holly Webb (Wintry Tales #3)

Me and my wolf books, always looking for more. Spoilers ahead.

Amelia is a young girl who is afraid of dogs and goes to visit her family. When one day she gets transported to the past through a journal, she meets up with a boy named Noah and has to help him take care of an abandoned wolf pup. This, however, requires her getting over her fear of canids.

Cute book. No, it's nothing all that deep or complex, but I had a good time with this story. It has a nice, cozy and wintry feel to it. This probably makes for a good book to read around the holidays especially, though it's not 100% a Christmas-book.

The characters in this were few, but our two leads (Amelia and Noah) were pretty likable. Not the most three-dimensional or interesting characters I've ever read, but they did have clear personalities and I did want to see them succeed in their goals. Amelia also goes through some nice growth throughout the story.

The story itself kept me hooked enough. It was pretty small-scale but if you like animals you'll probably be invested in the plot regardless. The plot is a bit on the generic side, but the execution was still good enough for me personally. Even if it doesn't stand out that much from other "save the endangered wild animal" stories.

I guess that if you're in the mood for a nice, pretty light-hearted and cozy read, especially around wintertime/the holidays, this is a good book for you.

Rating: 3.5/5
