I love reading about tigers, so this cover instantly drew me in. Spoilers ahead.
In this book we follow a young man named Akash, who joins a group of forest rangers to protect the last twenty or so Sumatran tigers in the world. When signs of poachers start to show up in Jambi, Akash and his friends find themselves in a struggle against them.
A good take on this potential future scenario. It thankfully hasn't come to pass (yet), but I can easily see something similar to this happening in a nearby future if we don't get our act together and save the rainforest and its species.
The characters weren't the most deep or anything, but I still felt an attachment to Akash and his fellow park rangers. They're flawed but engaging characters and kept me interested in the story. The struggle against the poachers also felt realistic and led to plenty of tense situations.
I guess I do have to admit that I was a little disappointed there wasn't more actual tiger stuff in the book (it's much more about the act of saving tigers than the actual tigers themselves), with this cover and subtitle I was kinda expecting there to be a bit more focus on the big cats themselves. Not that the book is disappointing as-is, but if you're going in looking for a book that actually has a large focus on tigers themselves, this might not scratch that itch.
Overall a good book exploring a scenario where the last tigers have to be protected at all costs.
