Book Review: Dog Driven by Terry Lynn Johnson

Impulse buy, but it looked interesting to me.

McKenna is a young musher who partakes in a race to deliver some mail for an important cause: Raising awareness for her younger sister's Stargardt disease, which has caused her sister to lose her vision. What McKenna hasn't told her parents yet is that she herself also has Stargardt and is losing sight. Now she has to partake in the race without being able to see much. Will she win?

This was a pleasant surprise. I really ended up liking this book. The plot was interesting and the stakes of the race were pretty high. McKenna is an enjoyable protagonist and the side characters like Harper and Guy and Emma were nice to read about as well.

I also really appreciate this book for raising awareness of Stargardt, just like McKenna sets out to do in the book itself. I legit hadn't heard of this condition before reading this book, so it didn't just get to read an adventure; I also ended up learning quite a few things about Stargardt.

The story itself isn't overly complex or anything, but I don't think it needed to be. It was just a good adventure with some enjoyable characters partaking in a race where they come across interesting obstacles.

So maybe not a super groundbreaking book or anything, but I appreciate it a whole lot. Definitely give this one a read if it seems interesting to you and you like dogs/dogsledding or adventure stories.
