Book Review: What We Saw by Hanna Bervoets

Note: The title of this book has been translated into English by me for the reading comprehension of this blog's viewers. The original title reads Wat wij zagen.

I don't normally review Dutch books like these because they're just not what I prefer to read, but this was a free book they gave out during Book Week, so whatever, might as well read it and review it. It's short anyways. Spoilers ahead.

Our main character works at a company she has to filter what content can and cannot be posted on an unnamed social media platform. She gets to see horrible things this way, from abuse to murder and far more. She later starts to develop a crush on one of her co-workers, Sigrid, however.

I really disliked this book. Aside from the writing voice, which was a pain to get into, there was also just so little enjoyability.

The concept was definitely interesting, and I was honestly only interested in the main character's job rather than the goings-on's with her colleagues and love life. I didn't care for the characters at all, personally. Our protagonist was a bore, I disliked the love interest, the colleagues were boring, so that's all not very neat when you're supposed to care for what's happening during their work.

There's also plenty of antisemitism in this book to go around, so, yeah. Please steer clear.
