So, um, hi.
Welcome to another book review! Today we’re taking a look at a much-recommended
one to me by my friend Fable: Good Omens. This book was written by Terry
Prachett and Neil Gaiman. Mild spoilers ahead, and let’s dive in!
With
Armageddon coming up, a demon named Crowley and an angel called Aziraphale seek
to stop the end of the world. Not only this is going on, but the Antichrist
also seems to have been misplaced. This all results in a delightful mess of
situations.
This book
was just an absolute blast. I found myself snickering at it much more than I’d
expected, just by how bizarre or ridiculously funny it gets at times.
Not only
that, but it was also rather well-written. A good pacing, an brilliant concept
and plot that executed brilliantly and lovely characters.
Speaking of
which, Aziraphale and Crowley are my absolute favorites. They’re both
delightful to read about. I honestly have a hard time picking a favorite out of
these two.
There’s
many other characters, and they’re all well-executed in their own right, but
it’s Aziraphale and Crowley that stay with the reader the most.
If I had to
pick a thing to complain about with this book, it’d be that maybe it shifts
perspective just a bit too much for me. While it’s fun and interesting to read
about the end of the world from so many points of view, sometimes the
perspective from which we were reading changed just a bit too much to me, often
many times within the same chapter.
This made
it a bit hard for me to keep up with some events without going back to re-read.
Just as I was getting invested into one POV-character’s situation, it’d shift
to the next, and the next, rinse and repeat. But this is a very minor complaint
about this absolute joy to read.
I’d say,
Good Omens definitely deserves to be checked out! I’m giving this one four out
of five stars. Also, keep in mind I haven’t seen the Prime series yet, though I
definitely intend to! See you in the next review!
